First day of work :D

Well today I worked my first swing shift from 2-10 at Pioneer and I loved it! I've gotta admit, I had forgotten how stressful and tough and fast-paced nursing homes can be. It was really sad, too, because two people died just today...I had forgotten how often deaths occur at nursing homes. However, even though it was a stressful day I actually really enjoyed the hard work... All except for my poor back of course! I used to have back problems when I worked at BCNR and the first day back at a nursing home and i'm already having problems again so I'm prolly going to have to be put back on muscle relaxers. ANYHOO, my trainer was a really hard-working and nice lady named Lori and I learned a lot but I'm glad I get to train the rest of the week so I can get to know all of the residents and all of their little routines and such. Basically my work day is going to be to come into work at 2 and find out which Team I'm on and then get report. For the next few hours I'll be giving showers and getting vitals and changing people, and then take everyone down to dinner at 6. Next, I'll do whichever job my Team is assigned to do and then start putting people to bed after dinner. Around 9 I just need to chart and then go home at 10 :) . All of the CNAs and nurses and management and everyone seem really nice so far. OH! Theres this bird named "Pretty Bird" there that sits on everyones shoulders and it can talk and whistle and "blow kisses", Its pretty dang cute. I took a lot of notes so hopefully tomorrow I can go in for my next shift and be better prepared, but then again you can never be prepared for nursing homes! :D
